Nicholas Knoebel, MLA, Associate ASLA
As a transplant to Arizona, Nicholas Knoebel has always appreciated natural phenomena and seeks to reveal them through design to improve our built environment. After serving several years in the U.S. Army, during which he was stationed both in the U.S. and abroad, Nicholas earned a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture from Arizona State University where he focused on the use of native grasses and worked as a research assistant on the effects of green roofs on urban heat islands.
Prior to joining The Green Room, Nicholas began his career designing residential, mixed-use and institutional landscapes including notable projects such as the Phoenician Resort residential addition, Epicenter at Agritopia and Culdesac Tempe. Across multiple and varying project types, he has been particularly involved in swimming pool, irrigation and planting designs. Nicholas has also participated in large scale planning competitions, including an award-winning watershed redesign, that considered sensitive environmental and economic interests.
Nicholas strives for every project to express and celebrate the natural attributes of the site, including the lifestyle and values of the people who live in it. By expressing these attributes, he believes a project facilitates everyday activities, inducing memories, while simultaneously revealing the beauty of time, space and place.
